Six months ago Matt Shipway was starring for the USA as they, against all odds, made the quarter final of the 2013 Rugby League World Cup. Today he arrives in Boston to spearhead the Boston 13s assault on the 2014 USA Rugby League.
Shipway, who hails from the great rugby league nursery of Newcastle, Australia, was able to represent the USA at the World Cup because of his parentage. He played in all four games in the tournament which included victories over the much more fancied Welsh, and Cook Islands teams. He was also prominent in the Cup’s warm up victory over the world’s then forth ranked team, France.
13s fans can see Matt in action this Saturday in the season opener against the Baltimore Blues. Kick off is set for 2pm at the Irish Cultural Center in Canton MA (200 New Boston Drive), admission is FREE.
