‘The Greatest Bar’ Boston 13s take the field this Saturday against rivals Rhode Island Rebellion in a mouthwatering ‘local derby’ clash to commence round three of the USARL season. There has never been any love lost between the two, and with both teams coming off a last start loss, they will be putting everything into this game to walk away victorious.
Head Coach Robin Peers will hand debuts to Australian Michael Bright who arrived this week, and former Te Atatu Roosters (New Zealand) veteran Kiwa Oakes who joined the 13s ranks on Tuesday from the Boston Irish Wolfhounds.
“Team selection this week was the toughest since I joined in 2012, and I feel confident in saying that this is the best 13s team that I have ever sent onto the field”, Peers said.
“We finished very strongly last week, showing great character and determination, so hopefully that has a flow-over effect to this game.”
The game kicks off at 3.30pm at the Irish Cultural Center in Canton MA (200 New Boston Drive). Entry to the game is completely FREE and there is a clubhouse on site serving food, soft drinks and alcoholic beverages.
Some of the 13s fringe roster players will also get a run out this weekend when Boston host their first reserve grade game since 2012. Current first grade stars Marcos Flegmann, Anthony MacQueston, Joe Coletta, Greg Richer and Carl Harrison all saw reserve grade action previously, giving them a great introduction to rugby league before progressing to the first grade roster. The game versus Rhode Island starts at 2pm.
