The Boston 13s cruised into the USA Rugby League final four with a 16-try demolition of rivals Rhode Island.
Captain Marcos Flegmann was the initial architect breaking the line twice in the opening three minutes to put the 13s out to a 12-0 lead, one that they never looked back from. Kane Bentley and Dustin Cooper were the beneficiaries of Flegmann’s hard work and between them they scored five tries in the afternoon (Cooper 3, Bentley 2).
Winger Ryan Forgione crossed for the next two tries in quick succession. The Haverhill MA native eventually scored three more in the second half to make it five for the day and thirteen for the season.
Both centers were also in top scoring form.
Tyler Ierardi grabbing two in the first half and Lucas Baistrocchi adding one either side of the interval.
Forwards Curtis Goddard and Mike Elias rounded out the scoring with two well constructed tries.
The 13s now move onto the final four round where they will rematch with three time National Champions the Philadelphia Fight. The Fight got the better of the round 3 exchange but the 13s are confident going into Saturday’s encounter.
“Just two weeks ago we played the same Rhode Island team and I was disappointed in the performance from our boys”, said Head Coach Robin Peers afterwards. “But the boys knuckled down at practice and rebounded by putting in easily our best performance of the season. We are excited for this weekend’s game and the opportunity to continue our quest for our first USA Rugby League championship.”
