Boston13s are a rugby league club competing in the USA Rugby League (USARL) National Championship.
In 2009, Harvard graduate Mik Shammas founded the 13s with the aim of establishing the popular sport in the Greater Boston area. The club and sport has grown considerably since then, and in 2012, Boston hosted and played in the USARL Championship game at MIT Steinbrenner Stadium, coming painfully close to lifting their first trophy.
The 13s moniker was chosen for a number of reasons:
-The thirteenth rugby league club formed in the USA.
-Boston’s role as the birthplace of revolutionary thinking among the original thirteen colonies.
-In rugby league there are 13 players per team on the field at any one time.
