The 2015 Boston 13s have gotten their season underway in the best possible fashion with an emphatic 68-4 on the road victory over the New York Knights.
Bolstered by new recruits Lawrence Crilley and former NRL player and Q Cup star Liam Georgetown, the 13s were fast out of the blocks scoring first through their captain Marcos Flegmann.
New York quickly hit back, getting on the board with their next possession with some great lead up work around the ruck.
Both teams played some really damaging rugby league and it looked like it was going to be a tight affair, however, Boston flexed their muscle and showed they’re true championship contenders after the 20 minute mark, keeping the scoreboard ticking over right up to the death.
It was a great team performance and the coaching staff were especially praising of the five players that played their first ever game of rugby league: Urban Iyo, Derek Morin, Lucas Baistrocci, Alex Steblovskiy & Trevor Bonnette.
“To put in a performance like that in your opening game is very pleasing for any coach, but we need to keep our focus and keep building week on week to get to the level we want to be at,” said Head Coach Robin Peers. “We certainly didn’t see the real New York Knights at the weekend, a team that has been so dominant in the AMNRL competition over the years. They have a great coach in Guillaume Cieutat and great captain in CJ Cortalano who will both make sure they rebound and trouble us when we meet again in round 4.”
